Hi Vivek,

you should forget about a direct database connection. This is quite complicated to realize and completly undocumented (for good reasons).

So you will stay with the DOORS client and the nifty DXL programming language - so you are absolutly right here in this forum. That being said ... there is a built in Word Export in DOORS which uses COM to automate MS Word. It is not very powerful and produces not very good results, but it can show you how to do stuff like this in DXL.

I don't know about your DXL background, creating an exporter from scratch is something I would strongly advice against, especially if you don't have a strong DXL and Office automation knowledge.

You might want to think about existing solutions - for example MD Workbench from Sodius has a very nice Java Bridge to DOORS and Plugins which allow you a fast and very easy creation of nice Word Documents (or other kind of documents, like Excel, etc). You could also go for the free WEXP or the quite pricy Rational Publishing Engine.

Any special reason you want to do this yourself? Btw. you can look at the other posts in this forum, there should be quite some regarding word export.

Hope that helps, Mathias

In this case you might want to study the export dxl files in "lib\dxl\standard\export\office" in your DOORS installation and make yourself familiar with Office Automation and DXL COM programming. For office automation task there is lot of information out there - for the DXL part you should thouroughly study the DXL help first, when you have specific questions you can search the forum or ask here. WEXP is still maintained and supported by IBM with the Rational Requirement Framework (was TREK). The free unencrypted version that was given out by telelogic as a support is given from hand to hand.
